Messages from the Fund Manager - Spring 2011
Spring is finally here! Now if only the snow would go away! We hope that you have been visiting our website more and accessing your benefit information.
This year there will be a few changes made to your Welfare Fund (Health Insurance Plan) to conform to the rules & regulations under the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act (PPACA), part of the new health care reform law. Listed below is one of the changes that will affect those that have dependents between the ages of 19 & 26:
- Effective July 1, 2011, young adults are eligible for coverage under their parentís/guardianís health care and/or dental plan (if they are without other employer-sponsored coverage) until they reach the age of 26.
Coverage can be obtained regardless of financial dependency, marital status, residency or student status. As stated above, if dependents have other coverage available to them through their employer, they will not be eligible for coverage.
If you have a dependent that termed from this plan due to his or her age, you will receive an enrollment application and other information late April or early May to re-enroll them effective July 1. If you have any questions regarding this information, please donít hesitate to contact our office.
Reminder: You will soon receive your Pension, Annuity and Supplemental Fund Statements. Please review them and let us know if there are any discrepancies.
If you ever have any questions, feel free to contact our office. We are here to help you utilize your benefits in the best possible way. Let us know if there is something we can improve on. As always, we welcome your thoughts & ideas.
Hope you enjoy the warm weather that will soon be here!
