IMPORTANT OPT-OUT INFORMATION
Due to the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (also known as “Health Reform” or “Obama-Care”) the BAC Local #2 Health Fund must alter the manner in how ‘Opt-outs’ are administered. Beginning May 1, 2014 two important points are described below:
1. All members who are currently opted-out of coverage with the Health Fund must re-submit documentation to demonstrate you still have employer sponsored coverage through your spouse. If you do not do so by May 1, 2014 you will be enrolled in a single plan with the Fund. Therefore, please remit a copy of your current insurance card (with your name) AND a copy of the Summary of Benefits & Coverage. According to the ACA coverage must meet ‘minimum value’ which means it must cover at least 60% of the cost of benefits offered under such plans. Basically (like before) if this other coverage is comparable to the Local #2 coverage, it will meet this standard.
Please make sure your dependent and beneficiary information is up-to-date with the Fund Office.
2. Beginning May 1, 2014 only members who have (other) employer sponsored coverage will be allowed to opt-out. Therefore if you have coverage on the NYS exchanges, individual health insurance or Medicaid coverage you will not be allowed to opt-out and you will be enrolled in a single plan on May 1, 2014.
